Character Modeler (Moov)

About the position

As a Character Modeler, you will have to creat or adapt 3D character models based on designs and concepts provided to you. Your models will have to meet the high visual, creative and technical standards of our projects. The artist will have to create 3D character models for the specific needs of a project, following the established art direction.


Responsibilities

  • Create characters (from sculpture to retopology) following the instructions established in order to be able to pass to rig and animation ;
  • Respect the steps of production established, to contribute to easy feedback by the lead modeler and the art director ;
  • Plan your workload and workflow (blocking, rough, polish, etc.) in order to respect deadlines established by the production department ;
  • Understand and execute the corrections requested by the Lead Modeler or Art Director ;
  • Prepare effective review packages following established nomenclature and guidelines;
  • Work with the Lead Rigger and Animators to create blend shapes and be able to effectively sculpt different emotions for a character ;
  • If necessary and if the project allows it, suggest design modifications to the Art Director ;
  • Demonstrate control and knowledge of the technical modeling workflow ;
  • Work effectively within the technical and project constraints while creating models in a wide variety of visual styles ;
  • Actively participate in team and department meetings.

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of anatomy and the ability to make appealing characters ;
  • College or university training in 3D animation, multimedia or any other relevant field ;
  • Excellent knowledge of Maya and Zbrush ;
  • 2 years of relevant experience working in a teamwork context in the animated film or video game industry ;
  • Demonstrate creativity and adaptation to different styles ;
  • Bilingual (French and English) ;
  • Training and skills in drawing, an asset.
